Multani mitti, meaning 'mud from Multan', is also popular as fuller's earth. Packed with minerals, fuller's earth primarily contains varying composition of hydrous aluminium silicates or clay minerals. Common components found in fuller's earth are montmorillonite, kaolinite, and attapulgite, including small amounts of other minerals like calcite, dolomite, and quartz. In some places, fuller's earth refers to calcium bentonite, altered volcanic ash which is mostly composed of montmorillonite.

The name "Fuller's Earth" is applicable to any clay material with the ability to decolourise oil or other liquids without chemical treatment. Historically, the name is derived from the word 'fullers' or textile workers. Fullers used clay material for cleaning or 'fulling' wool by kneading it with water into woollen fibres to absorb lanolin, oils, and other impurities as part of the cloth finishing process.

1. With Lemon juice for oily skin

Mix 1 tbsp. of Multhani mitti with rose water and lemon juice. Apply the paste on the face and leave it for 15-20 minutes.
Rinse with cool water. Use this pack twice a week.

2. With Neem powder for acne

Mix 1 tbsp. of Multani Mitti with 1 tbsp. of Neem powder, 1 tbsp. of Nutmeg powder, 2 tbsp. of raw honey, and 1 or 2 drops of apple cider vinegar. Apply this thick paste and spread it evenly on the face and neck. Wash when dry. Use this face pack once a week.

3. With amla powder for fairer skin

Mix 1 tbsp. of Multani Mitti with 1 tbsp. amla powder, some papaya/strawberry pulp, and rose water to make a thick paste.
Apply this to your face and neck evenly and wash when dry. Use this pack twice a week.

4. With Coffee for a healthy skin

Take 1 tbsp. of coffee powder, 1 tbsp. of Multani Mitti, 1 tsp. of green tea, 1 tbsp. of raw milk and make a fine paste. Apply this on to your face and leave it for 10 minutes. Rinse it off with water. Follow this once a week.

5. With Coconut water to remove sun tan

Mix 1 tbsp. of Multani Mitti with 2 tbsp. of coconut water. Apply to your face and neck and other tanned areas and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash with cool water. Use this pack alternate days.

Multani Mitti can dry your skin, therefore make sure you use a good moisturizer after use. Do a patch test before using it in the face packs.
